A Vertical Adventure in the Vercors
Welcome to the Via Ferrata Col de Rousset, one of the most spectacular itineraries in the Vercors massif. Perched high above the valley, this route, also known as the Chironne, offers the perfect blend of climbing thrills and accessibility. Whether you're a sporty beginner or an experienced climber, this route promises an unforgettable half-day. As you climb the limestone cliffs, you'll enjoy a panoramic view, casting your gaze over the Diois valley and the majestic Mont Glandasse.
This activity is ideal for those looking to transition from hiking or canyoning to something more exposed. The route is cleverly mapped out to offer progressive levels of difficulty, allowing participants to test their limits or stay within their comfort zone. With 160 meters of vertical drop below your feet, the sensation of exposure is very real, but you are always secured by the safety line. It's a veritable gateway to the émotions of climbing or the high mountains, accessible to families with active children and groups of thrill-seeking friends.
A Gateway to the Vertical World
The Via Ferrata Col de Rousset is renowned for the diversity of its obstacles and the fluidity of its progression. Unlike some purely physical routes, this one emphasizes movement and scenery. You'll find yourself in a wild, pristine mineral setting, in stark contrast to the lush green valleys below. For those who love the watery thrills of canyoning in the Vercors, this dry cliff adventure offers a complementary challenge: swap swimming for climbing, and tobogganing for soaring. It's the perfect complement to a multi-activity vacation in the region.
Accessible Sensations for Sports Families
Although the term "Via Ferrata" often evokes images of extreme mountaineering, the Col de Rousset route is designed with inclusivity in mind. Classed as Intermediate/Sporty, it offers a robust challenge without requiring expert climbing skills. The minimum age is 12, making it a fantastic option for a family experience. The route includes "escape routes" or easier variants around the most challenging sections, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the view from the summit without being forced to make extreme physical efforts. It's all about sharing the adventure, the safety and the joy of reaching the summit together.
The experience
Shows and thrills
Prépare yourself a journey that engages body and mind. The Via Ferrata Col de Rousset has three distinct highlights. Firstly, the environment itself is major: you climb a massive limestone wall with a deep gorge atmosphere, offering a very austere route. Secondly, you'll encounter "La Chandelle", a thundering rock pillar that requires technical footwork and offers a unique perspective on the cliff.
Thirdly, for adrenaline junkies, there's the famous "Rooftop Crossing." This section involves navigating beneath impressive rock overhangs, testing your arm strength and nerves.
Important Note: While the course is challenging, the most physically demanding sections (such as the overhangs) are optional; alternative routes are available, making the course adaptable to your fitness level on any given day.
