Tropical Adventure in the Heart of the Vercors
Welcome to Canyon du Léoncel, a hidden gem nestled in the hollow of the Vercors Massif. Far from the hustle and bustle of Grenoble's classic canyons, this course offers a jungle atmosphere rare in the French Alps. Classified as an Introductory/Discovery level route, it is accessible to beginners who know how to swim, while also offering a full day of adventure that will delight experienced adventurers.
If you're looking to escape the urban heat and immerse yourself in a wild, green paradise, the Léoncel is the ideal choice. The route winds through shady gorges where water has sculpted the limestone tufa, creating a landscape more reminiscent of a tropical island than a mountain stream.
A Day of Total Immersion
Unlike half-day excursions, the Léoncel Canyon is a full-day experience. This allows us to take our time, enjoy a picnic by the water, and completely disconnect. The pace is relaxed yet brisk, ideal for learning canyoning techniques without stress. It's the perfect outing for families with teenagers (12 years and older) or groups of friends.
The "Vercors Jungle"
What distinguishes the Léoncel is its lush vegetation. The walls are draped in ivy, mosses, and ferns, with rays of sunlight piercing the canopy. The crystal-clear water contrasts magnificently with the surrounding emerald green. More than just a sport, it's a spectacular aquatic hike in the heart of the biodiversity of the Drôme and Vercors regions.
The experience
Obstacles & Sensations
The Canyon du Léoncel is a natural playground. The course is renowned for its many abseils, the real heart of the experience.
Abseils: You'll descend waterfalls of up to 15 metres. It's a must-do, but very formative. Our guides will teach you how to manage your descent safely.
Jumps & Toboggans: The canyon offers several natural slides and jumps into clear pools. Note that while abseils are often mandatory, most jumps can be bypassed or roped down to your heart's content.
Setting: An alternation of walking in undergrowth and swimming in refreshing pools. Nature is omnipresent.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this canyon suitable for beginners?
Yes, even though this is a daily outing, the technical obstacles are still of an introductory level. However, you need to be in good general physical condition (endurance) and comfortable in the water. What should I bring?
A swimsuit, towel and, of course, closed-toe sports shoes (sneakers) that fit well. For lunch, bring a compact picnic (no glass, no alcohol) and water. We provide water bottles for transport. What if it rains?
Canyoning is a whitewater sport, so rain is not a problem in itself! However, in the event of storms or flooding, the guide will cancel the outing for your safety. We will contact you for a postponement or refund if the conditions are not met.EMAIL: contact@revedecimes.com
